Ayman Tamer, Chairman of Tamer Group, Celebrating a Century of Success and Beyond
A hundred years is a long time for any company. Tamer Group got there, and its chairman, Ayman Tamer, took the anniversary as a chance to think about where the business came from and where it goes now. Based in Jeddah, the group works across healthcare, nutrition, wellness, beauty, IT, logistics and e-commerce.
The next part of that story runs alongside Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Tamer Group played a part in the country’s past and wants a part in its future as well. How do you get there? Not with shortcuts, Ayman Tamer says. You have to understand the market first and build the plan from that. His family founded the group in 1922, so he is speaking with a lot of history behind him.
Ask him why the company has done well and he names several things. People, first of all: a team with a clear sense of purpose, filled with individuals who add value. Then systems. Tamer Group runs a strong management information system and up-to-date supply chain and warehouse management systems. And it has partners all over the world. Those relationships have put the company in touch with other cultures and other skills, which is part of why it has been able to keep growing and reinventing itself.
Values sit at the center of the company. Integrity, commitment and respect shape the way people work there, and collaboration, an entrepreneurial spirit and a love of learning are part of the culture too. The group has come through plenty of difficult times, the COVID-19 pandemic among the toughest of them. Ayman Tamer gives the credit to an experienced senior management team that adjusted quickly when things were uncertain and kept both its people and the company safe.
Now that the pandemic is behind it, he feels positive about what lies ahead, with Vision 2030 and global sustainability efforts both pushing in the right direction. As he leads Tamer Group into its second century, he wants its success to reach beyond the company itself and do some good for the country and for the wider community.
