Sobha Group’s Visionary Leader: PNC Menon, Founder and Chairman, Shaping the Future of Real Estate

“PNC Menon, Sobha Group’s Visionary Founder and Chairman, on Building a Unique Business Legacy for Tomorrow”
PNC Menon, the founder and chairman of Sobha Group, sat down to talk about how he runs his multi-billion-dollar business and where he wants to take it next. He has been building in the Middle East for five decades, and much of his success comes down to one decision: doing almost everything in-house. That backward-integrated model is now Sobha Group’s core strength. It sets the company apart from its rivals and has earned it recognition at Harvard Business School. Because Sobha controls its own contracting, manufacturing and design, it can hold cost, quality and time to a high standard, and its projects are often finished ahead of schedule.
Menon keeps a close eye on every detail, and the business has grown because of it. Sales were expected to reach $4 billion this year and $5 billion in 2024. He puts those numbers down to his perfectionism and to holding every part of the operation to the highest standard.
The GCC has been his home for almost fifty years, and he says Dubai is an ideal place to do business. Still, Sobha Group is looking further afield, and Menon sees the United States as a big opportunity for growth. When it comes to the future, he says it all depends on having the right people in place. His son, Ravi Menon, and Francis Alfred, managing director of Sobha Realty, are key members of that leadership team.
He also looked back at the hard years after the 2009 recession, when Sobha Group took a hit. The lesson he took from it was that real estate moves in cycles, and that a company always needs a strong equity base to ride them out.
Technology is next on the list. Menon said the group plans to lean into robotics and artificial intelligence, and it is already setting up an office of robotics and AI engineers to stay ahead of the industry. He sees that as a challenge for the next generation to take on, his son in particular.
For Menon, the past is behind him. What matters now is what comes next for Sobha Group.
