Abdullah Al Amri
His Excellency Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri has chaired Oman’s Environment Authority since it was set up in 2020 to plan and run programs that protect the environment and conserve the country’s natural resources. He also served as President of the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7). At the UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi in February 2024, he highlighted Oman’s plan to plant 10 million trees and the opening of the 500-megawatt Ibri solar power plant, both of which support Oman Vision 2040. The same month, the authority hosted the Oman Conference for Environmental Sustainability, focused on decarbonization and the adoption of low-carbon technologies and policies. In September 2024, Al Amri oversaw a five-year cooperation program with the Global Green Growth Institute covering nature-based solutions, land reclamation and green finance. The authority also runs public campaigns such as Clean Sea, sea turtle protection and initiatives in Qurum.
